A conversation with Maya Angelou

by Kerri Miller, Minnesota Public Radio
October 16, 2007

St. Paul, Minn. — Noted poet and writer Maya Angelou says she has a "love-hate relationship" with writing. Angelou has written a number of memorable essays, poems and books over her distinguished career, and she has a new collection of poems for young readers coming out this fall.

Angelou has received many honors over the years, and she is the first living poet to be included in Sterling Publishing's "Poetry for Young People" series. Despite all the accolades, Angelou says the process of writing can be quite difficult for her.

MPR's Kerri Miller spoke with Angelou prior to her appearance at the 7th Annual Speakers Forum at Temple Israel in Minneapolis on Oct. 16.
