When the U.S. Olympic hockey team beat the heavily favored U.S.S.R in 1980, it became known as "The Miracle on Ice." The team was coached by Minnesotan Herb Brooks and 12 players on the team were also Minnesotan. See displays of this and 149 other people, places and things that shaped Minnesota. Minnesota wouldn't be Minnesota without...

October 12, 2007

The Minnesota Historical Society asked people to finish that sentence and make the case why their selection should be included in an exhibit created to mark the 150th anniversary of Minnesota's statehood. The exhibit, titled MN150, opens Saturday at the History Center in St. Paul.

St. Paul, Minn. — On the third floor of Minnesota History Center in St. Paul, a large room is filled with artifacts and information which tell the story of the 150 people, places and things that were selected for the exhibit. The Minnesota Historical Society received more than 2,700 nominations for the 150 spots. Included in the final selection are an old snowmobile, a butterhead sculpture, photographs and videos, and even a Greyhound bus.

The exhibit opens Saturday, but MPR's Jim Bickal got in early to take a tour.
