Ukranian wins Twin Cities Marathon
St. Paul, Minn. — (AP) - Ukranian Mykola Antonenko won the Twin Cities Marathon Sunday with a time of 2:13:54.
Antonenko pulled away around the seven-mile mark and was never challenged. He finished six minutes and 18 seconds faster than second place Joseph Mutinda.
Antonenko competed in the Twin Cities Marathon in 2004, finishing second behind Augustus Kavutu Mbusya, who finished third on Sunday.
In the women's division, Svetlana Ponomarenko and Sharon Cherop were neck and neck for much of the race, but it was Ponamarenko who pulled away with a winning time of 2:34:09. It was Ponomarenko's first marathon.
The race-time temperature was 72 degrees.
