Pete Seeger's life story told on film

St. Paul, Minn. — Pete Seeger has been singing for more than seven decades. He sings songs of protest and activism, and he sings in the hope that others will join in.

Despite this long history he has never agreed to a biographical film of his life -- until now.

Later this week that film, "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song" opens in the Twin Cities.

The film follows Seeger's life as an activist for union causes during the Depression, then when he was blacklisted as a communist.

It chronicles his part in the folk music revival even as he worked against the VietNam war, and now as an environmental activist in the Hudson River Valley in New York State.

The film is produced by Twin Cities-based Bill Eigen, who describes Seeger as a patriot.

MPR's Euan Kerr talked with Bill Eigen about the life and times of Pete Seeger.
