Prevention can save 100,000 lives per year

September 14, 2007

St. Paul, Minn. — An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You've heard it before. The adage is old, but the words are still true. And a new study proves that ounce of prevention can save some 100,000 lives each year.

A study by the National Commission on Prevention Priorities underscores this. But it also points to a lack of preventive medicine in certain communities. And that can lead to poor health, higher medical costs and even death. You can read the study at http://prevent.org.

Dr. Jon Hallberg joined All Things Considered host Tom Crann with more on what might be common sense, but isn't always being practiced.
