Growing up in Berkeley, California wasn't easy for Laurie Lewis.

She was 14 when she went to hear The Byrds, but it was the opening act that changed her life. The Dillards, specifically the banjo playing of Doug Dillard, made Laurie want to take lessons.

St. Paul, Minn. — "Trying to play bluegrass banjo without anybody to play with... it's just the lonesomest instrument in the world. The truth of the matter is, I didn't have very many friends in high school, so I had lots of time to sit in my room."

These days Laurie is surrounded by people who understand exactly what she went through -- her band, The Right Hands. They visited the studio to talk with Dale Connelly and Jim Ed Poole of The Morning Show.
