Irvine Welsh writes about hatred

St. Paul, Minn. — Scottish writer Irvine Welsh catapulted onto the international literary scene with "Trainspotting," his disturbing, yet darkly humorous, story about heroin addicts in Edinburgh.

In subsequent books, he's written about the rave culture, working class life, and even the adult film industry.

His latest novel is called "The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs," although he quickly points out there's little about food or bedroom secrets in the story.

It's actually the tale of two restaurant inspectors in Edinburgh whose relationship turns very ugly. Welsh told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr it starts as a story of male rivalry and goes from there.
