Minnesota and Wisconsin extend tuition pact
by Art Hughes, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — Higher education officials in both Minnesota and Wisconsin are assuring students registered this fall that the tuition agreement between the states is intact.
The agreement allows students to pay the tuition price of their home institution when they cross the border. Negotiations between the two sides stalled after the University of Minnesota expressed concerns that Wisconsin students are paying up to $3000 less than their Minnesota counterparts.
In a written release, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education reaffirmed to students the agreement applies to those planning on attending the U of M this fall.
If officials end up dissolving reciprocity, the agreement requires schools to honor the agreement for four years for any entering freshmen.
