Sudanese ambassador addresses Darfur criticisms
St. Paul, Minn. — United Nations Secretary Council General Ban Ki-Moon expressed frustration this week with Sudan's government. Ban said the nation has failed to green-light a joint U.N./African Union force that would try to bring peace to the region.
Since 2003, more than 200,000 people have been killed in Sudan's remote western region of Darfur. The U.N. estimates another two million people there have been displaced from their homes.
The Sudanese Ambassador to the United States, John Ukec Lueth Ukec, is in Minnesota for a speaking engagement in Minneapolis Wednesday night, and he spoke with MPR's Tom Crann about the situation in his country.
