Vikram Chandra writes an epic tale

Some critics describe Vikram Chandra's new novel "Sacred Games" as a thriller. But the Indian-born writer says he's a little nervous about applying that title to a book 900 pages long.

St. Paul, Minn. — He's created an epic tale set against the splendor and the squalor of modern Bombay.

It involves a lowly police officer and a hugely successful gang boss. While their stories are intertwined, Chandra told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr that neither of them really knows it.
