St. Paul, Minn. — Four commanders played critical roles in World War II's Pacific theater, but no one had examined their interlocking roles before. A new book uses Japanese and American sources to piece together the reasons why both sides failed to understand each other.

The author, Evan Thomas, will also talk about the parallels to the war in Iraq.
