North Korea likes to release photos of its pristine streets and patriotic citizens. But sometimes a picture isn't worth a thousand words.

St. Paul, Minn. — For the most part, North Korea is a land of mystery.

Sure, people know about its nuclear test this fall and about the continuing international efforts to put a stop to the country's burgeoning weapons program.

But what about the society behind all the nuclear news stories?

Reporter Nikki Tundel put together a numerical portrait of life in North Korea, a nation that proudly calls itself the world's ninth nuclear power.
