St. Paul, Minn. — Six Muslim religious leaders, or imams, were detained last night in Minneapolis as they tried to get back home to Phoenix. They were in town for a conference of the North American Imams Federation.
The imams reportedly drew suspicion from some passengers and the flight crew after several of them began praying. A Muslim advocacy group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), says it will file complaints with the proper authorities and is holding a news conference this morning.
Cathy Wurzer talked with Ibrahim Hooper, the National Communications Director for CAIR who says media reports that the imams were praying on the plane are inaccurate.
