Miriam Simmons runs a manufacturing business with her husband from their home in Stillwater. While she's never served in the military, her parents were both veterans of WWII and met during their service in London.
Her husband served in the Navy, and her stepson is in the Army Reserve; he has spent time in Afghanistan and two years in Bosnia (Meriam says it felt like three).
She was born and raised in Texas, and last month marked her 25th year in Minnesota. While she's lived all over the country, she says she's "adopted" Minnesota and feels a strong connection to the state's well-being.
