The distance we go together

St. Paul, Minn. — On a recent car trip with her children, Nanci Olesen logged 4,000 miles, sometimes riding in the car for ten hours at a stretch.

They picnicked at rest stops and ate homemade granola with milk in little motel rooms before starting out each morning. They quarreled and joked and shared stories of their lives.

And they did it all together.
