One refugee at a time
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates 21 million people around the globe can't return to their homes because they fear violence or persecution.
Three Minnesotans are among the many who serve refugees about war, disaster relief and rebuilding communities. They are country directors for the Minneapolis-based American Refugee Committee and they met together in the Twin Cities last week.
Tom Crann talked with Jerry Farrell, who oversees the ARC's Darfur program in Sudan; Barbara Whitmore, who is in charge of the program in Sierra Leone; and Gary Dahl heads the Fishing Boat Project in tsunami-ravaged sections of Thailand.
