St. Paul, Minn. — K.T. Tunstall grew up in St. Andrews, Scotland loving David Bowie and science fiction novels. She started playing piano at age five, and then added flute and singing.

She didn't start playing with a band until she moved to the United States for one year in high school. She moved back to Scotland and immersed herself in the same scene that formed The Beta Band.

It might sound like she brought along a band to play "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" with her, but it is just her, a guitar and some loop pedals.

Songs performed: "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," and "Suddenly I See"
