A scorecard on the stadium debate
by Mike Mulcahy, Minnesota Public RadioSt. Paul, Minn. — The stadium debate at the Capitol grows more confusing by the day. Earlier in the session it seemed as though the Twins stadium plan would have smooth sailing -- both proposals passed in the House.
But things started to get interesting when the stadium bills hit the Senate Taxes Committee. The Twins proposed funding their stadium in part from a .15 percent sales tax in Hennepin County.
What emerged from the Taxes Committee Tuesday was a proposal for both a Twins and a Vikings stadium, and future transit projects, with funding coming from a sales tax increase in the seven-county metro area.
To help keep score on these issues, MPR's Tom Crann talked with political editor Mike Mulcahy.
