"Camp Out" at the International Film Festival
by Cathy Wurzer, Minnesota Public RadioTen Midwestern teenagers attend the first overnight Bible camp for gay, Christian youths in the documentary "Camp Out." The film is part of the 2006 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival.
"Camp Out" centers on The Naming Project Teen Summer Camp in rural Minnesota, the only Bible camp in the country designed to give gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth a forum to explore the intersection of their spirituality and their sexual identity.
Through following the 10 campers, this film tackles the question of why these kids yearn to be a part of the Christian faith.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with the film's director, Larry Grimaldi.
