by Mary Lucia, Minnesota Public RadioDeath Cab for Cutie began in 1997 as the solo project of singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard. The success of his home-brew cassette You Can Play These Songs' Chords inspired Gibbard to recruit a full-time band including guitarist/keyboardist Chris Walla.
St. Paul, Minn. — Chris Walla is also an accomplished producer in is own right, and aside from his production work on Death Cab for Cutie albums, he's also worked with such artists as Nada Surf, Hot Hot Heat, and The Thermals.
He spoke to Mary Lucia about touring with Franz Ferdinand, the projects he'll never be a part of, and his favorite eye cream.
