Gov. Pawlenty wants the state to add facial recognition technology to Minnesota drivers' licenses. The governor yesterday outlined that and other proposals that he says will help prevent identity theft. His announcement came just one day after Attorney General Mike Hatch criticized the Department of Public Safety for selling drivers' license data in bulk to private companies. Don Gemberling is a national expert on data privacy issues and the former director of the Information Policy Analysis Division of the Minnesota Department of Administration.
