Are podcasts making money?
Posted at 5:03 PM on March 6, 2007 by Jon Gordon
From Monday's Morning Edition:
Morning Edition, March 5, 2007 · Podcaster Rob Walch explains who is actually making money producing the Internet-based audio features. Walch runs the podcast411.com Web site and co-authored the book Tricks of the Podcasting Masters. He speaks with Renee Montagne.
Here's my quick summary of the interview:
-Early podcasting was purely hobbyist fare. Now people want to know how to make money podcasting.
-Educational podcasts are really taking off lately.
-They play a clip of "Coffee Break Spanish" podcast
-You don't need a "radio voice" for podcasting
-Very few podcasters are making money. But a few are, including Rocketboom, Ask a Ninja, and The Mommycast.
-Those who are making money are generally the behind-the-scene folks who produce podcasts for others. Sort of like the California gold rush, where suppliers made money but miners did not
There, see? You don't have to bother with opening the clunky NPR audio file. I just did the dirty work for you.
