Tech in my house

Posted at 5:13 PM on December 10, 2006 by Jon Gordon

I produce Future Tense, the daily public radio tech report, so you'd think I'd be Mr. Gadget. But I'm fussy about technology products, and don't like to spend a lot of money on devices. I prefer higher fidelity experiences to fill my days, like spending time with my kids, going on a good hike, or playing a round of golf. All that being said, I do own a few things. I took a little tech inventory, and here's what's in my house:

14-in Apple iBook G4
for work (I produce Future Tense at home in my garage)
Digidesign MBox with Pro-Tools (audio editing hardware and software)
80 gigabyte Avid external hard drive (to store audio files)
Dell PC (the family computer)
30 GB video iPod (mine)
30 GB video iPod (daughter's)
4 GB iPod Nano (daughter's)
iPod Shuffle (old model, wife's)
iHome radio/iPod dock (got good reviews, but I'm not fond of it)
A cheap Dell printer
AirLink 101 Wifi router (pretty weak signal, might have to get new hardware soon)
Cisco Pix 501 Firewall
Westel Wirespeed DSL modem
A digital camera, can't even remember the brand and I can't find it just now. Fuji?
Four mobile phones on the T-Mobile network (family plan)

I have a tempestuous relationship with most of this stuff.
