Lonely Zune seeks mate

Posted at 8:34 PM on December 11, 2006 by Jon Gordon (2 Comments)

On the next Future Tense, I talk with Ina Fried of CNET News.com. She's been testing Microsoft's challenger to Apple's iPod, the Zune. She went on a quest to find another Zune user in San Francisco, where she works. She wanted to test Zune's squirt feature, in which two Zune users can exchange songs wirelessly. Fried found one lonely Zuner.

Listen for the interview on the radio Tuesday, or subscribe to the Future Tense podcast and listen whenever you like.

UPDATE: As if to underscore the point that Zunes are nowhere and iPods are everywhere, an iPod has been spotted aboard the International Space Station.

UPDATE: Then again, a confirmed iPod/Apple nut thinks the Zune ain't so bad.

Yeaouch. I'll have to take in the audio but Jon, she only dug up one lonely Zuner?

BTW, I think that function is unfortunately named. It will either completely catch on to an annoying degree (and likely in a way Microsoft does not approve of or intend) or merely be the embarrassing phrase that causes molar pain when spoken. Who came up with that term?

I agree that "squirt" is a highly unfortunate name for sending a song to another Zuner. Surely it will make someone's "What were they thinking?!" list down the road.
