Grey Metro, Wintery mix north today

Welcome to Brussels. Or is it Hamburg, Bremen or London? Seattle or Portland maybe?

In college I spent a long grey fall-winter semester in Frankfurt. Did I suddenly get transported back in time?

This is what winter looks like when it's just not quite cold enough to snow. The metro will feel like northern Europe again today. Wet, with shades of grey. Give me back a real Minnesota winter?

Expect scattered rain to continue today in the metro and southern Minnesota.

Tricky up north!

Up north there's just enough cold air to make things dicey today. A mixed bag of freezing rain is causing icy roads in Duluth and northeast Minnesota. Some snow is coming down and producing a couple of slushy inches in spots.

High pressure will blow in tomorrow and clear the skies, and bring us a more typical December chill in the air.

For every one of you snow-loving nitwits, there's one of us grateful for this non-winter. My family and I have to drive about 1200 miles total this Christmas. No snow equals safe travels.

Paul, it's nice to finally get some much need moisture, even if it is rain. But do you have any insight into whether with this recent warmup the ground has thawed enough (especially down in Southern MN) to soak up enough to protect bushes and trees, etc. from the colder temps to come?

This snow loving nitwit is sad to see rain instead of snow from this storm. If one doesn't like snow, there are lots of places to live where it doesn't snow. I will never understand people who complain about our wonderful snow and cold yet continue to live here.

Hey Paul- I'm down in Rice County where we have received over an inch of rain so far. Just to put salt in snow lover's wounds, how much snow would that have been?

Not taking sides here, but this would have been 3" to 12" of snow if temps were 5-7 degrees colder!

Carry on with the snow/no snow argument please!
