Heavy snow is also moving through south central and southeast Minnesota. Expect peak snowfall, with visibilities down to 1/4 mile at times during the next 6 hours.
Here are the latest snowfall totals for southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin. (Rochester-La Crosse area)
Stay safe as the snow continues to pile up this evening!
"A snowplow pulls up to the site on the Bath Road on Monday during a snowstorm where an Albert Lea school bus slid off the shoulder and into the ditch. A short bus came and took the children back to town. A Freeborn County sheriff's deputy waits by the bus."

Snow coverage and intensity are cranking up as expected. So far in the metro between 1" and 2" has fallen. I measured 2" at the Deephaven Weather Lab at 3pm.
Twin Cities doppler shrouded in snow. Notice the brighter bands of heavier snow moving in.
Southwest Minnesota has already piled up between 3" and 6"+ in some areas.
Visibilities are between 3/4 mile and 1/2 mile in the metro...which corresponds to snowfall rates around .5" to .75" per hour.

Thanks a lot for this blog Paul. It is where I always go when bad weather is coming. Do you know what the storm Thursday is going to bring yet?
My modeling software is showing snow totals of 8-10 (after I got that result last night, stopped modeling!! LOL), and for some reason my models have been spot on this year (so far): modeled week ago Friday 3 times (to put off a final exam just a few more minutes) and the lowest snow total was 18 inches, with the moderate model (middle of 3) showed 20.5 inches -- got 20.2 inches here in S Mpls (edge Edina/Richfield).
Already 3 inches here and it is WET snow -- ugh! Flakes are larger (like first storm) and converting to ice with a single foot step and quickly icing the windshield if you are driving into the snow or across it. Looking at Hwy 62 outside my window -- slow and go traffic in BOTH directions between Commons and Hwy 100.
But - on a lighter note -- only showing 3 inches on Thursday (so far!!)
I do appreciate this blog and the weather information on MPR in general, BUT...
It seems that this winter especially, the weather has really focused on "the metro area" with outlying areas like us southerners down in Rochester barely getting a mention. Since this is MINNESOTA Public Radio after all, NOT just Minneapolis/St Paul, could you just possibly give us a little more information on the rest of us? If you look at your posts for the last week or more, maybe you can find references to Rochester that I missed. Now that we are the third largest city in the state, could we get a little more information from our state public network? Thanks!
