Weather warning downgraded to advisory

The weather keeps on moving on, and according to the National Weather Service site the winter storm warning that was in effect for west/central Minnesota is now filed under winter weather advisory. My favorite update comes from the 4:20 a.m. NWS update.

...WINTER STORM LOSING ITS GRIP OVER CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...

Finally. Don't hang up your shovel just yet, as MPR's weather forecast page for the Twin Cities murmurs about additional snow - 40% chance today and up to 50% tonight.

Today dawns a littler brighter from our house in the Twin Cities:

Hope you'll send your weather photos and stories to MPR.

I hope your back is feeling better. The snow on Thurs. was wet but not too bad to shovel. Yesterday the "stuff" was truly back breaking. One despised the shoveling of this slush but knew it would freeze into impenetrable ice. I am, for the most part, anti-machinery. Yesterday, however, I had visions of snow blowers dancing in my head; hurling this gluttonous glomp off my driveway. Today the shovels will sit and wait for the next challenge.

We got about 2 -3 inches total with this supposed Mega Storm. Got my husband a shovel for Christmas because he loves snow. So disappointing for him. Plus we need the snow to protect the underground pipes, etc. My friend in Hermantown says that the snow was too deep and heavy there for the snowblower to work. Why does north Central St. Louis County have a bowl over it that prevents snow storms and rain storms from coming here?

Thanks, @lysager, my back was better and up for cleaning the house and more shoveling. Ice, heat, stretching, and taking my time helped it all work out. Like, the visions of snowblowers danced in my head! Hope the next challenge is a few weeks out, it sounds like we could all use a break from the back-breaking.

@Eiolg I am no meteorologist, so I don't have a real answer for that. You gave us all an interesting perspective in that you *wanted* more precipitation.
