Today's Minnesota DNR Fall Color Report shows color near peak in much of northern Minnesota.

Get out there!

Today may be the best day this fall for viewing fall colors around much of Minnesota. A bright sunny day combined with temperatures near 60 in southern Minnesota will make for perfect leaf peeping. Colors are nearing peak in many locations now.

Warmest day this month:

Bright sunshine and a southerly wind will combine today to bring the warmest day so far this month for many Minnesota locations. Temperatures should warm to near 60 degrees in the metro and most of southern Minnesota.

The warmest temperature so far at Twin Cities Airport in October is 54 degrees. The average high in the metro today is 63 degrees.

Cold front ahead:

Colder air will begin to ooze southward behind a cold front tonight. There will be a chance of rain in southern Minnesota Thursday, but it looks like the front will come through the Twin Cities dry. Temperatures will struggle to climb into the 40s by this upcoming weekend.

Twin Cities' first snow flakes Saturday?

It appears we may see the first snow flakes of the season this Saturday around much of Minnesota. A low pressure system will slide through from west to east during the day Saturday. The air mass should be cold enough for snow. There could be some accumulation north of the metro, with snow showers and flurries for the Twin Cities.

There are signs of somewhat milder air returning next week.
