The weather - it is a changing

It was bound to happen! Minnesota will experience one more day of unseasonably mild weather, with bouts of showers and thunderstorms. On Thursday the transfer of power begins and the cold reality presents us with the evidence that indeed, November weather brings large swings in temperatures.
A vertically stacked closed low pressure will drift slowly east from South Dakota to a position just north of the Twin Cities between now and Friday morning. Cold air will plunge south on the back side of this counterclockwise circulation. This is a surge of air cold enough to change rain to snow from west to east late Thursday through Friday.
There is little promise of a return to temperatures approaching 70 degrees anytime soon. I'll remind you we are losing daylight and warmth. The thirty year average max and minimums slip downward through the next 100 days or so. No turning back from the brink of the winter of 2008/2009.
