Lightning at two ball parks

I just returned from beautiful, but very congested Seattle. Wow, talk about traffic! The weather was delightful on Monday evening so the family decided to take in the Twins and Mariners ball game at Safeco Field.

With the time difference we were able to watch the first few innings of the Cub game from Wrigley Field. I was also watching the weather radar. Warnings and watches were out for Chicago's western suburbs. It was obvious that the game would be suspended by rain.

We departed for the Mariner's park as rain arrived at Wrigley. It was later that night that I learned of the dangerous situation that eventually enfolded for thousands of Cub fans as lightning danced across the skyline and near the spectators.

With the Twins having a comfortable lead and the sun going down on in the Pacific Northwest, life was good. It was during the bottom of the seventh inning when the Mariner's ignited the field with lightning in their bats. We eased out gate F as quietly as we could, with my TC hat pulled down and not making much eye contact.

It was a nice preview of what games will be like when the Twins move outdoors for the 2010 season. Weather will certainly be a part of your pregame planning.
