Winter Marches on

Posted at 12:59 PM on March 7, 2008 by Craig Edwards (1 Comments)

Dr. Seeley put a nice summary together of the record cold for the date across Minnesota. This arctic air mass kept the weather quiet but unseasonably cold the past few days. A slow moderation gets underway on Saturday. But as we’ve come to know, when a recovery in temperatures sweeps into the region, there come clouds and the chance for light snow.

This southern boundary of the very bitter air mass, colliding with the increasing warmth in the Tennessee Valley has spun up a storm that should make headlines on the evening news.

My daughter, a professor at Wright State in Dayton, phoned in the report of raging blizzard early this afternoon. Classes have been cancelled for the third time this year due to ice and snow. By the end of the day on Saturday the snow will have accumulated to more than a foot in spots with drifts waist high.

Looking back, the past three weekends have delivered temperatures in the 30s over the state. It is doubtful that we will reach 30 in the Twin Cities on Sunday. The mercury could flirt with 40 as early as Monday.

Hunker down for some very interesting and wild weather nationwide as we continue to move through March.

While this past weekend was quite nice in the Twin Cities, I'm looking forward to more melting this week!
