Sunshine felt good

Posted at 1:52 PM on March 28, 2008 by Craig Edwards (0 Comments)

If sunshine is your thing, you should feel sky high as we end the work week. I lingered outdoors on the south side of the house at noon time to bask in the relative warmth of the late March sun. Though the mercury had yet to climb above 40, the brilliant shine felt downright delightful.

Our neighbors in the Arrowhead took a second look at the thermometer at daybreak when the readings were sub zero at Ely, Orr, Tower and Embarrass. Snow cover remains on the order of 10 inches in some regions. Reports confirm that the ice cover on northland lakes is still several feet thick as we are about to close out a chilly March.

A year ago we experienced temperatures well above average in March. We were stunned when the thermometer reached 81 degrees on the 26th at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. In the Twin Cities, the average temperature was more than six degrees above normal. It appears we will likely close out March 2008 with continued below normal temperatures.

Some light snow is possible from Alexandria to Hinkley north on Saturday and Saturday night. Winds are expected to pick up out of the southeast adding a bit of a chill as well.

Some day soon, we will be plenty satisfied just to be average, weather wise that is!
