Capitol City-one degree better

Posted at 3:43 PM on March 12, 2008 by Craig Edwards

We soared well past 40 degrees on a sun drenched Tuesday afternoon. Despite the grungy snow cover, the warmth of the direct rays of the March sun (although the official temperature is taken in the shade), launched the thermometer reading to just short of the 50 degree mark at the Twin Cities International Airport. The Official high temperature for the historical records will state the maximum for March 11th was 49 degrees.

In the western suburbs of Chanhassen, home to the NOAA think-tank and the National Weather Service observation site, the high temperature was 48.

Now, here's the rub. The temperature from the automated sensing site at St. Paul's Holman Field, deemed to be accurate, touched 50 degrees on Tuesday afternoon. If you have an office pool on the first 50 degree reading in the Twin Cities, check the regulatory statute written in small print.

Regardless, there seemed to be smiles all around in the glow of the March sunshine.

If you're into celebrating St. Patrick's Day, you may wish to party early, like Saturday. Monday's weather may be a little bit raw.
