I’m not talking about the match up between the Gophers and the Hoosiers. Breaking news more than a week ago allowed us to prepare for this smack of arctic air. You can talk about it for days, but experiencing it is a whole different story.
International Falls, where the sign coming into town welcomes you to the Ice Box of the Nation, recorded a minimum of minus 29 on Thursday. But if you work the numbers for the first 17 days of the month, you’ll find that the average temperature shakes out to more than 10 degrees above normal. Well folks, settle in for character building, but not record cold. There will be no problem with melting skating rinks for a while. Take this frigid invasion seriously. Cover your head, or at least your ears. Frostbite is painful and long lasting.
