Aurora Watch

Posted at 7:01 AM on January 15, 2008 by Paul Huttner (1 Comments)

The aurora has been active every night this year in the northern latitudes. Though sunspot activity is minimal now, it may be worth watching for the Northern Lights in the coming weeks.

Oh, good; now I know when it'll be cloudy.

No, seriously - the vast majority of the times in the last few years when we've had warnings about auroras or solar wind streams or coronal mass ejections or higher planetary K indices, it's been cloudy here. Yes, really. I'm not crazy. Well, about this.

I am subscribed to Spaceweather phone to alert me to these solar episodes. There are other alerts you can receive, but these are the ones I care about. And I'm not affiliated with this group; I simply thing they have a cool service.
