Storm-Based Warnings

Posted at 9:49 AM on September 20, 2007 by Paul Huttner

Huh?

Why wouldn't warnings be based on storms?

Yes it seems to be stating the obvious, but the NWS move to the new Storm-Based warning system on October 1st is designed to cut down on false alarms. The current county-based system can lead to a wider warning area, and leaves people wondering why there's a warning for Bloomington when the storm is in Brooklyn Park. Both are in Hennepin county, but are miles apart.

NWS Storm-Based Warnings

Storms will rumble across Minnesota today bringing more much needed rainfall, and hopefully not too much sevre weather. But we will see quite a few "county-based" warnings today!
