This evening on Radio Heartland, listen for Dave Moore in concert.

Dave Moore's career in music has been guided by happenstance and whimsy. His first instrument was a harmonica his mother dropped in his Christmas stocking in 1971. I'm sure millions of kids got harmonicas the very same way. I know I did. I played mine for about ten minutes and then in went in a drawer forever. But Dave Moore couldn't stop playing his stocking harmonica, and that has made all the difference. In the years that followed, he added the guitar and the accordion to his repertoire and traveled to Mexico to learn from master musicians like Santiago Jimenez Sr. He performed with Greg Brown on some of his records, but Dave only got around to recording his first solo album (Jukejoints and Cantinas) when he won some studio time at a folk festival.

Almost 40 years after receiving that harmonica surprise, Dave has played a lot of music but has only made three solo albums - each one a treasure.

Tonight at 6 pm, Radio Heartland listeners will get a rare chance to hear Dave Moore in concert - a performance recorded at the Armitage School in Minneapolis, presented by Richfield's venerable Homestead Pickin' Parlor.

This concert will be repeated Wednesday, May 5th, at 1pm.
