Hey, Something Smells!

Posted at 5:55 AM on September 7, 2009 by Dale Connelly (7 Comments)

A lot of things are a bit suspect around here.
Like ... why am I working on this gorgeous holiday? Hmmmm.
Something seem fishy? Yes, it's all a clever ruse. I recorded a few hours featuring songs about work and Mike Pengra gave them to Jasper, who is happily handing them back to you in exactly the same opportunistic way that machines did when they took over for welders on the auto assembly line. Perhaps I have given away the store, but I can't help it - this weekend has been too beautiful to miss.

Sorry I can't respond to your requests instantly, but if you'd like to hear something tomorrow morning as we start our new post-Labor Day routines, leave it as a comment on the blog or send an e-mail to dale@radioheartland.org.

You get a special bonus for visiting on your day off - we have a drawing for tickets to see Crooked Still at the Cedar Cultural Center this Wednesday night. We'll close off entries at 1 o'clock tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.

Enter online. Obey the rules.
Good Luck.

Today is the last day of the Great Minnesota Get Together, and it's the last day of Radio Heartland's Cavalcade of State Fair Pictures.

By the end of its run, the Fair has had time to marinate in the many odors that wash over the grounds, good and otherwise. We have photographic proof.

Here are Teri's shot of "Sturgeon", the garbage sculpture, my shot of a Slops Sniffing Swine Snoot, and DanT's Tired Tootsies.

In theory, I always have the day off because I am in retirement. I guess it isn't just a theory, I never have to go to work and just do the things that those that aren't retired do when they aren't at work.

Thanks for the good collection of labor day songs, Dale and Mike. I wonder if Mike gets the day off?

Great that you get the day off, Dale.

We're in retirement too, Jim (well, we have little part time jobs), but it doesn't feel like it because it's now HARVEST. Yikes!

I went to the Fair on Saturday and visited the MPR booth asking for RH stuff. Coffee mug, window cling, magnetic thingy...anything. The kind person I talked to didn't know but thought they used to have magnetic business cards, but they were all gone. MPR needs to do some more promotion of RH; after all, RH is the only reason I renewed my membership this year.

Dale,
So glad you took some time off. I theoretically was off and simply taking call. It was amazing how many different hospitals had problems and how much work I ended up doing. Once again it gave me an appreciation of how much we rely on the labor of folks who are willing to keep the world turning for the rest of us so we can enjoy time off , radio shows, utilities that run all night, healthcare, and food, etc.

Can you start the real week off with "Oh what a beautiful morning." I used to play it for my son to wake him up gently. All I did was make him scream, "I hate that song!" ...I still like it

The other day I suddenly noticed that I hadn't listened to Dale's show for about 3 weeks. What made me sad was I didn't miss it. I could list things that are missing from his "show" that I feel are required to indeed even call it a show as oppossed to just an extension of the automation, but in the end Dale and MPR just do what they do and that's it. They have their set up and it seems to be set in stone with no Heart. One very small case in point is Dale continues to "finish" the show at the end of each and every hour making it sound like the show is over when you still have either 1 or 2 hours left. It makes no sense. Also Dale's over all announcing and "entertaining" has in my opinion been cut back to the point where I hardly even know he's there. The Morning Show wasn't ALL about the music. Personality on the Radio was something created by Dale AND Jim Ed it now seems. Alone, Dale either won't or can't step up to the plate to Give Radio Wonder,er, Heartland an actual beating HEART. Too bad.
