Gambling & Guthrie

Tonight on Radio Heartland, from 9 to 11 pm on Minnesota Public Radio News, I'll welcome a listener who delighted the other members of our daily Radio Heartland audience by using them as a resource when putting together a presentation for a conference.
Don Feeney of the Minnesota State Lottery was tapped to give a luncheon talk this past May on the topic of gambling references in popular music at the University of Nevada, Reno's 14th International Conference on Gambling and Risk Taking.
His query on Trial Balloon in February drew a spirited response. Don already knew most of what we suggested, but did we all have fun thinking about the topic and advising him? My money says we did! He'll stop by the Saturday night studio with some of the songs he shared with his fellow conference goers.

In hour two it's my pleasure to welcome Charlie Maguire, Pop Wagner and Tony Glover to the studio. Each of these three has a long history of sharing great music with their fellow Minnesotans. Tonight, they'll combine forces to talk about a common influence - Woody Guthrie, whose birthday is coming up on Tuesday.

Wagers and Woody, this Saturday night on Radio Heartland.
