Radio Heartland is presenting the sold out Colin Hay - Peter Mulvey concert at the Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, May 1st.
We have 4 pairs of tickets to give away to Radio Heartland listeners.
There are some enjoyable rules to read, of course.
Enter your name between now and 1 p.m.this afternoon.
Give it a try, and good luck!
Here's a short news poem in honor of the newly transformed and redefined Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, a public servant who valiantly pushed Swine Flu off the front page for a moment, at least, and has now made certain that Minnesota will have only one Senator through the summer months.
We may declare ourselves to be
Of red or blue in hue.
But every one of us is free
To pull a Switcheroo. It's not a lengthy leap to take.
Nor is it hard to do.
You simply change the points you make
And presto! Switcheroo!Instead of guns, it's rights for gays.
Bank rules and regs? Too few!
And taxes aren't that hard to raise
On rich folks. Switcheroo! The world and politics will spin,
They're turning like a screw.
You once were out. Today you're in.
Tomorrow? Switcheroo!
Feel free to add a verse or two, or tell us about a time you pulled a Switcheroo, political or otherwise.
Morning Dale... thanks for the good laugh (although not sure I should be laughing at the thought of the senate seat being semi-permanently empty!). Hopefully we're saving the state some money, right? Or will the eventual winner get a great big wad of "back pay"?
Thanks for the Digga Digga Doo... love hearing the Star Wars tune in there... wonder which came first.
Morning Heartlanders!
The people hunger – lose their jobs
We wonder what to do?
They matter not, the little folks
Politics matter – Switcheroo!
and on that dark note, good morning All!
ps, our buck is named "Majority" - a name given to him by his breeder - right now he feels pretty good about that name. he is on the right side no matter what - no recount needed.
Good morning Dale and Heartlanders,
I think you might be right about the ballot fight digging in its heels for the summer. How about "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off"?
I pulled a shoe switcheroo last Thursday. About 10am at work, a student worker noticed that I had two different colored shoes on - one navy blue one, and one light tan one. At first I thought someone was playing a prank on me, but how could someone else change the shoes on my own feet? I remember sitting down at home, planning on the navy shoes, and even having one in my hand. Then saw the tan shoes, and thought they might be more comfortable (but still match the outfit). I put on the left tan shoe, and who knows what happened next?
A coworker also had on non-matching socks ("both were clean") who fessed up to make me feel better. It was good for a day of laughs.
Good mornin',
I'm enjoying the irony of the Switcheroo impacting ex-senator Coleman who I vividly remeber used to be a Democrat. Too bad it's impacting us too.
Let's send out the "Liberty Bell March" to our friends in the Keystone State.
Beth-Ann
Good morning, everyone! It's been one of those weeks, and I need to get moving on the tasks ahead of me. Wishing everyone a happy Wednesday.
Good Morning RH,
When The Morning Show was tossed aside
Listeners cried, "We're screwed!"
Dale's quick mind resolved the angst-
The new HD2 Switcheroo!
Could you play something by Kathleen Edwards for Kay H?
Yesterday she was asking for some female artist suggestions.
(Hi Kay! How often do you check your facebook messages?!)
Barb, thanks for sharing those great pictures of your farm the other day. The facemasks were a nice touch!
Gail, too funny....I'm guessing you already had the right shoe on and once the left one was in place you were ready to go. I've had mornings like that, not with shoes though.
Barb, your dark note was right on.....you always have something interesting to add.
Dale, could you play some Richard Thompson this morning?
Have a great day everyone.
Donna - thanks for the great verse! re the facemasks: they seem very au courant, but we actually had them on when we were cleaning the chicken coop!
Gail - done that shoe thing - not just two different colors, but one had a higher heel. i didn't notice it until i was walking in to work and thought one of my legs was getting shorter!
Well Yee Haw to you too. Speaking of changes- Could you dig up Ian and Sylvia-Changes?
My cat just hopped up on my desk,
And intends to add a few
Pawings on this keyboard
So I'll make a switcheroo.
Spring has finally landed here
Yet now we have swine flu
To contend with, and its fear --
What's a pol to do...
To get the rapt attention
Which he feels is his due?
Did we fail to mention?
He pulls a switcheroo!
When you stand before the gathered throng
With one shoe of brown and one blue
Before you hold forth in speech or song
Pause a moment, reach down, and switcheroo
(In honor of Gail, Barb and others who have found themselves with two different shoes - including my mother who found herself directing the church choir one Easter Sunday with one black and one navy shoe...during the second service...at the front of the church...)
Morning all:
Thanks for all the fun and funny posts. Here's a little bit for Dale and you and Goats everywhere:
Oh Heartlanders, don’t be too mean
Don’t you remember when?
Old Norm he was in times it seemed
A friend and member Dem?
You loved me when I took on Bork
Couragous I was then.
And now with funds, call it not pork
Incentives, I am friend.
This turn is earned please don’t you see?
It’s not about your vote.
Some worms, my friends not marriage be
But civil, loose not hope.
The day will come quite soon to Minn
Your Al and I will show
That age’ed I, and Amy in
Obama we will go.
Have a good Wednesday, y'all!
Dale-Thanks for playing-Summer Wages-it's a great song.
For interested listeners, here are the lyrics for Changes.
CHANGES
(Phil Ochs)
Sit by my side, come as close as the air,
Share in a memory of gray;
Wander in my words, and dream about the pictures
That I play of changes.
Green leaves of summer turn red in the fall
To brown and to yellow they fade.
And then they have to die, trapped within
the serpentine parade of changes.
Scenes of my young years were warm in my mind,
Visions of shadows that shine.
Til one day I returned to find they were the
Victims of the winds of changes.
The world's spinning madly, it drifts in the dark
Swings through a hollow of haze,
A race around the stars, a journey through
A universe ablaze with changes.
Passions will part to a strange melody.
As fires will sometimes burn cold.
Like pedals in the wind, we're puppets to the silver
strings of souls, of changes.
Your tears will be trembling, now we're somewhere else,
One last cup of wine we will pour
And I'll kiss you one more time, and leave you on
the rolling river shore, of changes.
Oh, Anna, how wonderful of you to write a poem in our honor! It makes my face turn red once more! Your poor mother, up in front of people - you never let her forget it, do you?
So many clever poets in Heartland!
howdy, gang--
i'm still singing Hole in My Head---just fits my mood, i guess!
(also fits my singing voice range perfectly :-)
well, the old switcheroo---there is a certain symmetry about it with arlen and norm, i reckon...but dang! wish they could just get it decided and we could start hearing some on-scene humor from al franken----
thanks for the original poem, dale, and the additions in posts here!
(p.s. donna, hi---i kind of lost interest in facebook, but will go there now!)
Greetings Heartlanders! Always interesting stuff, here. While we like to complain and accuse politicians of waffling and -- good heavens -- do the Switcheroo! I'm going to be the devil's advocate here for a minute .... how often do we change our mind on significant situations?
I know I change my mind, review my beliefs, rethink my position on many things -- we're constantly evolving, adapting and recreating ourselves as we gain new insights, explore new information and are exposed to new ideas.
George W. Bush's idea of "Stay the Course" was disastrous on many levels. Although Mr. Specter's switcheroo seems politically expedient, it does take boldness (and balls) to make that kind of change. Thankfully, he's coming to my side of the table!
Of course, there's a lot to be said for being strong, persevering and standing by what you say. But, it takes more guts to say, "Gee, I might have been mistaken, let's try this instead." Being mentally flexible (not weak) is a more important trait for me. Just something to consider ...
Your friend,
