This Saturday night on Radio Heartland on Minnesota Public Radio News, I'll welcome two creative musical guests. In the first hour, Daithi Sproule, a native Irishman and long-time Twin Cities resident who helped revolutionize the way guitars are used in Irish music.
We'll talk about his innovations, his influences and his work with the group Altan.
In the second hour, Midwestern singer and songwriter Susan Werner on the art and the challenge of "covering" a pop song while making it sound fresh. We'll hear familiar tunes re-shaped and enhanced by the classics, reggae, bluegrass, and Tuvan throat singing.
Innovation and re-invention tonight on the stations of Minnesota Public Radio News from 9 to 11 pm.
Dale,
Thank you for Van Morrison "In the Garden". One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists. I'm greatly enjoying tonight's broadcast.
When I think Irish I think Elvis Costello. Doesn't he do an a capella version of an Irish (?) anthem? I can hear it in my head but no title or words.
Very nice......the Van Morrison song "In the Garden"
is one that is new for me...thank you I will look for it now.
Daithi Sproule was a wonderfull treat.....
I will do my research.
Oh, and thank you for the Elvis........
I love Costello!
Am I psychic or --? there's my answer, maybe.
Hi Radio Heartland...Well I am just speaking up to be counted. Love the conversation about making music, pretty much like making art (of the visual type) where experimenting is concerned. THANKS
Michelle
Thanks for the comments, Kathy, momkat, Kate and Michelle.
And many thanks to Daithi and Susan for sharing their time and their gifts. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
