Gods, Heroes, Myths & Devils

Tonight on Radio Heartland on Minnesota Public Radio News, I'll raid the library for songs that name characters from mythology. In the first hour, Hercules, Poseidon, Agamemnon, Frigg, Isis, Maui and Icarus will parade across our little radio stage. Actually, there'll be three songs about Icarus - musicians are fascinated by his heartbreaking story.

In hour two, my guest will be famed Cajun fiddler, bandleader and scholar, Michael Doucet. If Michael didn't already exist, we'd have to invent a myth to explain his legendary talent. Michael's group BeauSoleil has a new disc called "Alligator Purse", and there's a new solo recording for Michael titled "From Now On". We'll sample both, and then dive into a string of songs where Satan uses fiddles and guitars to cut deals with musicians who are hungry for a little extra skill.

Supernatural abilities are on display tonight on Radio Heartland!

Can't wait for tonight's show, BeauSoleil an all time favorite. We saw them in Rochester a couple of years ago, wow.

As alwasys we love your show.....
Icaris was an entry that caused us to reflect; who did the song that we were so familiar with from the 70's? It was Paul Winter. That took us back, now we have to get the vinyl out to listen to it again.
