Tonight on Radio Heartland on Minnesota Public Radio News, you'll hear personal histories told in song.
In the first hour, Twin Cities folk singer Larry Long will visit to talk about his community-building project, "Elder's Wisdom, Children's Song". Larry visits elementary schools and guides students through a research and song writing process focusing on the life stories of local "elders". We'll hear how a group of 4th graders in Columbia Heights honored local resident Meroslava Bryn.
In hour two, I'll talk with singer - songwriter Richard Shindell about his new disc, "Not Far Now". Richard lives a double life - touring artist in North America and stay-at-home dad in Argentina. We'll enjoy live performances of some new songs and hear how Richard navigates his two worlds, on Radio Heartland.
Sorry I missed the first hour of tonight's show. I got carried away with the Earth Hour - turned off and disconnected all non-critical electrical devices and fell asleep. Woke up in my chair to a black and silent house, slightly disoriented. But I'm listening now and regaining consciousness. Dale's voice is a comfort in the black velvet night.
because i was with friends and not on my usual early to bed schedule, i got to hear the first hour. Hearing Dale's voice on a saturday evening was a bit disorienting, even without the darkness. and Larry Long's lovely, lovely song collaboratives with the children were sometimes so heart breaking and always beautiful.
thanks for exposing us to things we would maybe not be able to hear anywhere else, Dale.
ps - hope the concert saturday night was a HUGE success!
Great playlist!! so happy to hear the variety of Gomez, Ry Cooder, BB King, Peter Mayer, Regina Spektor, the Decemberists.
I love Radio Heartland, we have it on all the time.
thank you!!
