Our vacation is almost over!
I arranged last night's accommodations at the "Sahara Sands", which I thought was right by the ocean, but we've been walking for hours and this tree is the only remotely moist thing we've seen.
I guess the website didn't actually SAY anything about a "waterfront", but how can you have so much sand and NO sand castles?
It might have been a mistake to pass up that camel ride back to the hotel.
See you Monday! Maybe.
See, Minnesota in February is not so bad. The temperature here in Winona this morning is ABOVE zero. As soon as it melts there will be plenty of water here! Sand and beaches? overrated :) Welcome back!
Dale - i'm so glad you didn't take the music with you when you went on vacation and you left Mike and Jasper - both wonderful in themselves - but we'll be happy to hear the real you in real time on Monday.
(to the goats you've been absent since early December so they are lobbying for a barn computer connection to the satellite - unfortunately, something that will not happen. maybe HD and RH in the rest of the state soon? please?? i cannot, cannot find a station to listen to out there. KUMD is no replacement. they are bereft. they are barely eating (not).
Good morning Mike and all,
I just read an email from my daughter in Namibia, Africa. She specifically asked how Dale Connelly is and told me to ask him why she can't get Radio Heartland in her neck of the woods. As long as Dale's already on the continent, do you think he'd be willing to go out of his way a few thousand miles and help her with the connection?
Yesterday in first grade:
Little blondie - what're you eating under there?
Me - I wasn't eating.
Little blondie - what're you eating under there?
Me - what makes you think I was eating anything?
Little blondie - you're s'posed to say 'under where?' What're you eating under there?
Me - under where?
Little blondie - You were eating your UNDERWEAR??!!
Morning Heartlanders. Donna, thanks for the early morning laugh. Reminds me of when my daughter was little... instead of saying "overalls", she would says "overwears". I never knew where it came from but it persisted for a couple of years. Thanks for that memory!
Already anticipating Dale's return on Monday -- Mike, maybe we can have trumpet and fanfare music on Monday morning?
thanks for the chuckle, Donna - your students must really like you to include you in their underwear jokes.
morning, everyone--
you know, i could really get used to staying home every day! still sick, but the brain is functioning, so yesterday i worked and got a lot done! calling in to meetings today, then some writing, etc., and all with RH--it's awesome--thx, mike.
there's something very appealing about the sand and sky---i could use some of that desert heat to bake out this darn cold and cough!
Dale,I would think you would be glad to get away from water after spending yesterday on the North Sea. Okay, so warm water would be a welcome change...stilll...if the hot sand sends you home sooner all the better.
Have a safe trip back.
OK....now that was spooky.
The Richard Thompson song that just played was a request that I made one morning a week or so ago.
I just heard Dale say that I requested it but how did he (or Jasper) know it's my Birthday today!
I was bummed out that Bill wouldn't be able to request a birthday song this week but that made up for it.
And now the Brass Kings; When the Sprintime Comes!! I'm having a great Birthday morning.
Thanks Mike, Jasper & Dale when you return.
Wow, Dale! You and Pickles must be riding in the 'Ocean of Fire' horse race - three thousand miles across the Sahara desert! I believe that palm tree marks the half-way point. Once you get back to MN,you two will be emptying sand from your boots for quite a while, I'll bet. But what stories you will tell. Looking forward to hearing them all : )
Mike - can you talk JASPER into 'Midnight at the Oasis"? Thanks!
Kate, many happy returns of the day, as winnie-the-pooh says for birthday greetings!
Happy Birthday, Kate, indeed. I've always been amazed at Dale and Jim Ed and Mike's ability to play just the right song at just the right time and at just the right day. Today, for example, Dale and Mike just played "Cold Missouri Waters" which I have been longing to hear for months and thought I had best restrain my requests...thank you!
Now...in the honor of water and/or Dale's lack of it in the Sahara...how about Lake Baikal???? (again)
My request restraints can only hold so long...
Dale:
An interesting side note regarding Happy Traum. He sang background vocals for Dylan on "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" back in the early 70s. That was Happy sing "Ooooo-eee, ride me high......."
Happy Birthday Kate!
My, my...so many good requests this morning! If I could go back in time to when these hours of Dale's show were recorded, we could try to honor them. So if you can hold on till next week...Dale's back, in the flesh, on Monday morning. LIVE!
In the meantime, I thinkin' I need to prepare Dale for all of the places this blog thinks he's been, the Stetson, Pickles,... What else does he need to know about???
Good Morning!
Teri beat me to the punch with the request for "Midnight..."
Mike - Don't forget the robe and slippers! Thanks for getting the playlist to show by the way. I like to keep track of who I am listening to so that's a great feature.
Barb - Perhaps you should record the show each day and then play the tape for the goats the next day. Sure they'd be confused for a while by being a day off but after a while they would just be living one day in the past. It would be sort of a daylight savings date!
Best weekend wishes everyone!
Hi, can anyone tell me the name of the song that Dale played between 8 and 9 that was performed, as he described it, by a group of friends? This was all that I caught--got distracted. It was done by men and women, sounded sort of Irish about a train. Thanks!
I like your vacation picture today Dale; an oasis in a sea of sand. That is what Radio Heartland is to me, a relaxing oasis in my frantic, stressful day of meeting deadlines, solving problems and feeling like I am trudging through a sea of sand in order to get to that wonderful, refreshing place where I finally feel like I am caught up. I need a vacation but I do not think it will be at the "Sahara Sands". Thank you for the hint and for Radioheartland.
Hi Folks
Would someone be able to tell me how I can hear previous shows/songs from TMS and RH?
A while ago (about 2 years) I remember replaying a song from TMS (on computer).
I am woefully unsavvy in this tech-y age!
As always. thanks........
Sheila,
Archived audio from The Morning Show is still available on the MPR website. Go to the "Programs" menu, click on The Morning Show, and choose a date.
Also, audio from The Dale Connelly show is also available by going to that show's webpage and clicking on a date.
Hope that helps!
And Cindy, the song between 8-9am this morning performed by "a group of friends" was "Sammy's Bar" by New Golden Ring. Infectious, isn't it?
Mike (& Dale &....)
Thank you for your directions, that did the trick.
I am grateful to you guys for all that you do,
keeping our spirits up through the loss of our favorite show (TMS) as we headed into a serious and dark winter.
Your work plants seeds of hope.
Cheers,
Sheila
Very nice program last Saturday night on 91.1. Classy. Seems like Jasper is behaving better in general as well.
A couple of song suggestions:
From Randy Newman's "Harps and Angels"
I know you've discovered "Laugh and Be Happy" but how about "A Few Words In Defense OF Our Country" a bit more often also: "Korean Parents"Harps and Angels" "Losing You" and Easy Street." All great songs.
One other request. ANYTHING off the recent Brian Wilson CD "That Lucky Old Sun." I don't understand at all why you haven't at least showcased one or two from this great, great CD. I know you like Wilson as you've programed Smile. This is as good and in some cases better...
