Happy New Year! Welcome to 2009!
We're only a few hours in and I've already returned to one bad habit I was going to get rid of this year - eating cookies while driving.
Oops. And here I thought everything had changed.
But they were last year's cookies, so I was obliged to handle them under last year's rules of conduct, which very clearly state that eating cookies while driving is OK as long as you keep your eyes on the road, at least one hand on the wheel, and leave only a few crumbs. No cookies with soft, stain-making ingredients are allowed, particularly chocolate chips, especially not in July when the chips are gooey and will leave a tell-tale mark on your shirt if a chunk happens to break off, tumbling down the front and into your lap. Chocolate chips in January can be OK, as long as the car is cold as an icebox inside, as this one was. But even if it had been sauna-hot, I didn't violate that rule.
The cookies were brittle, with almonds.
However, no cookies baked in 2009 will be eaten in this reckless way. 2009's cookies will be eaten properly, no more than two at a time, with me seated firmly at a table going 0 miles per hour with a glass of milk nearby, preferably skim. And there will be some vegetables and fruits around too, to provide a stable base for my nutritional pyramid.
That's just the way it's going to be, starting with the very next round of baking.
Everything will be different, starting pretty soon.
How goes it with your resolutions?
