We are making adjustments as we go here at the expansive Radio Heartland Research and Development Campus.
Yesterday, I took a hike over to Building 23 and discovered that the musicologists had prepared a long list of Christmas music that has been scientifically proven to delight all listeners to each one of the known radio formats. I watched as a brief ceremony took place - the list was presented, with a tray of Christmas cookies, to HAL, the computer who schedules our days here at Radio Heartland. HAL ingested the list and scanned the cookies, but did not eat. Our staff of programmers take HAL's reaction as a sign that he will soon begin playing back a jolly, seasonal assortment of appropriate but not overused tunes almost immediately, and they will appear once or twice an hour between now and December 25th.
Another development: Radio Heartland has now made it on to the MPR Iphone and Ipod Touch application. Download the application and listen to all MPR's services!
If you are within range of your phone or WiFi network, you should be able to plug your headphones into an Iphone or Ipod Touch and listen while you walk around, amazed, just the way we were when the Walkman was a brand new idea and we were suddenly freed from having to be in the same room with the radio. Try it and let us know if this path to private listening works for you! I was able to listen through my Ipod Touch while making turkey tomato barley soup last night. I was so enthralled, I missed the part of the recipe that called for quick barley and used very, very slow barley instead. I had the opportunity to listen for a long time. And because I was using headphones, the nice music overwhelmed the pre-digestive grumbling from down below.
And a wave of listener confusion about our complicated re-broadcast schedule for the Dale Connelly Show has led us to add a third live hour each weekday morning, from 8 to 9 am central time. This third daily hour will eliminate the problem of immediate, mind numbing repetition that caused so many complaints. Hour 3 will be heard only once each day, unless the quality control experts in building 14 decide as part of their daily standards and practices meeting that hours 1 or 2 were somehow lacking. In such an unlikely event, hour 3 will be promoted, and will take the place of the offending substandard segment during the midday broadcast between 11 and 2.
See? We fixed the problem, but kept it complicated.
That's progress!
Dale- now that it has been over a week since the Last Hurrah, I have to tell you that you didn't skip a beat. Your playlists are incredible and I now have an advantage I didn't have with the Morning Show.. I can have your music streaming through my speakers 24 hours.. as well as the comfort of hearing your familair voice saying hello (just like 'home') now and again... it has been a wonderful transition!
Good Morning Dale, Mike and Fellow Bloggers:
Did I detect an underwriter when I turned on my streaming online RH at 6am? If so, that is great news!
Sounds like you have the Christmas music sprinkled through the day via HAL figured out. Sounds like quite the production.
I'm trying to figure out how I can listen to RH while I'm at my brother's house in Green Bay, WI for the weekend. If I bring my laptop, I'm not sure if he has a network in his house. And using a guy's computer is a tricky thing. We shall see. I might have to miss it for the weekend. But I'll be back next week! Take care ..
Joanne
Morning guys,
Great news about the iPhone application! Now my husband HAS to buy me one for Christmas!
Even more exciting that you'll be doing a third hour of broadcast. I've been playing it in my classroom all week and it seems to have had a calming effect on the kids (high school, so when they decide it's time for Winter Break, they don't really care what the calendar says). I credit you and Mike and HAL with keeping them focused on Rhetorical Analysis during this final week before vacation. Can't thank you enough for that!
Any chance you could share that recipe? It sounds delicious.
Dear Santa,
Please bring me an I-POD Touch for Christmas. I know I told you that I didn't want anything for Christmas, with the recession and all, but this is really important. I just heard that I may be able to get my favorite radio program on an IPOD touch, so now I really need one. I am not really sure what n IPOD Touch is, but I suppose it is cheaper than an I PHONE. But, that would be ok, too, if you have some extra coin. Also, I want to put in a good word for my friends, Dale and Mike, and their friend HAL. They have been really good this year, especially this past week.
See you soon,
It is nice to see a small island of sanity in the vast quagmire of insanity that is Radio these days.. that small island would of course be Public Radio in general and MPR in particular, with three or four associated islets--The Current, KSJN, KNOW, and now Radio Heartland..one has only to listen to regular commercial radio for a very, very short time to realize just how much it has deteriorated over the last decade or two..Once, when I was a child, it had intelligence, it had integrity, it was thought provoking, it was a part of the community from whence it came.. but not any more..the only thing that had stemmed the tide toward lowest common denominator intellectual stagnation is/are you guys and other community based radio stations (KFAI comes to mind, but here in the far north metro they don't come in so well.) Don't lose that commitment. It is important..
Thank you SO MUCH for adding Heartland to the ipod touch... you really made my wife JEALOUS (she only has a nano).
Good morning
We love the music and made a contribution this morning. Make sure if you do make a contribution that you specify Radio Heartland.I told them when I called that was my intention and she still asked at the end of the conversation if I was doing it for clasical, News or the Current.
Thanks for the music Dale. How about some Steve Goodman or Doc Watson in the play list.
Thanks for the 3rd hour, Dale!
Dale,
I "kinda" liked to hear the request live and then yet again repeated! I guess I missed the blog debate, being new to the experience, typically just a skim it. I was trying to figure out if one can play on demand a segment that maybe a sleepy off-spring may have missed, since the computer is way down in the kitchen, by clicking on the archived show play list. For little ones, hearing their name on your show is a thrill! So no more repeating the show? It's a little more like old radio after all. How are we suddenly so low tech?
Tweak is right...I'm hearing music to which I don't understand the words! I missed the intro (no HD radio in the shower yet)...but it sounds like one of the Scandenavian groups. Excellent!
Just to be sure it's not a fluke....I'd like to request/share with the Heartland crowd one of my favorite throat singing songs (I have more than one favorite!)....Eshten Charlyyry Berge by Huun-Huur-Tu on their Sixty Horses In My Herd album.
I had been mulling over a persuasive essay along the lines of the following: 'Roots' music is a broad catagory which could include 'organic' music, since 'roots' suggest things organic...and what could be more organic that a person sitting in the middle of the Mongolian steppes lifting their voice to the heavens as they tend their herd of horses. The song above also evokes in me visions of the Aurora Borealis, with memories of looking at the Minnesota night sky in January when it's 40 below outside...
Keep em rolling Dale & Mike! I'm listening (and ecouraging everyone one I know to do the same).
(16-year old Step-son's response to hearing the news of a 3rd hour starting Monday)
Dude! Rockin' solid... Where's the OJ?
Good morning Dale! Oh what a wonderful first week of Radio Heartland. We absolutely love it. One thing I've always enjoyed about the Morning Show was the guests you've had on the air. So it warmed my heart to hear Peter O. (I also love David Lindley's music). It was great to hear Jim Ed too. I'm looking forward to hearing more guest musicians on Radio Heartland. Happy Holidays. Many thanks for your work.
Peace

wow guys great job. life is ok after the big scare. it turned out even better than one could have hoped for. tell me how to delete the 1.1 application and reinstall it on my iphone so i can get the heartland portion of mpr's offering on my iphone. incredible!!!
Hi Dale, we bought HD radio a couple of years ago so we could listen to BBC. Thank you for expanding the HD options in such a wonderful way. I am enjoying the show and am planning to purchase another HD radio so I can listen and share the music with my little guys while I am working my Nanny gig. Thanks again, Joyce
Great start to the show, Dale. Almost as good as the Morning Show. Thanks for adding that third live hour in the morning. I was wondering from day one why the show was only going to be two live hours instead of the three us old-timers were so used to- until the Current came along and you started doing four hour shows. My comfort level just went up because of that 3rd hour.
One suggestion: how about having a contest to rename the computer known as HAL? It's a bit of a lame name since it has been used to death starting with the 2001: A Space Odyssey movie.
I know us loyal listeners easily have a great new name for the computer just waiting to be presented to the public. If you ever have that contest, my entry will be: Jim Ed.
Keep up the great programming.
Chris
Thank you for the song Mercury Blues Dale! That indeed was a long instrumental version of that song. I had the title wrong. It is originally from David Lindley's El Rayo X album from 1981. I tried and failed to find my album. Looking at the list of great songs on that LP (looked on the internet) I am inspired to purchase the CD.
Being able to access Radio Heartland throughout the day is wonderful.
Sue
Wow, thanks for the third hour Dale, that's great news! Radio Heartland has really eased my holiday stress! Wishing everyone at Radio Heartland a very Merry Holiday!
I've been thining of Hal as MaestroHeart...
Thanks, Chris, for stating what everyone knew but was afraid to say - HAL is an uncomfortable name for our music scheduling computer. It falls short on several levels, not the least of which is the way the character HAL developed in the film 2001.
We only started calling our artificial brain HAL because that's the default name for any computer with authority, and because HAL can stand for Holds Audio Longer, which we hope he will do, or Hates Arctic Lows, which is how I feel about the weather, or Happy And Lazy, which is how I was expecting HAL to make me feel, once he started doing his job.
But clearly this is the wrong approach.
I like your idea of calling the computer Jim Ed, although in keeping with the HAL template, I would go with Jim Ed's trio of initials - JEP.
That could stand for Just Emits Programming.
Or Jumbled Eclectic Programming.
Or Jiggle Every Part, which is what you would have to do to get him to work properly.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for Bill Staines and River, just about one of my favorite songs ever. You really haven't missed a beat, and I hope you're enjoying this as much as we are!
Hey everybody -
To help with the holiday shopping, you can just send your loved ones to this page so they can learn more about Dale and Radio Heartland on the iPhone.
E-mail that link to whoever may appreciate the suggested gift. Print it out and tape it around the house, place it under pillows, or on the inside of the medicine cabinet.
More about Radio Heartland on the iPhone.
Remember, being subtle gets you nowhere.

Agree on the HAL thing.
I like JEP...or mayber JEPERS (pronounced JEEPERS)....Jim Ed Poole Emulating Radio Simulator? JEPERS sounds like a good Heartland-y word, like "okey dokey" or "you betcha".
Dale & Mike
Thanks for saving "radio sanity". Your new show and the format is absolutely great. Of course, I'm glad you're offering the 3 hour show.
I noticed that the ARCHIVE options are still there for the "Dale Connelly Show". I can still press the hourly"Listen" button and use the "Selection slider" to find songs. This is great, since I can't always listen to the live show. Question: Is it possible to have this same luxury for the archives of the 24 hour Radio Heartland program? The way it is now, the only thing one can do to listen to a previous day is to listen to the 24 hour playlist, start to finish. Thanks again, Larry
Dale & Mike,
I think Radio Heartland is doing really well given the constraints. I hope you are enjoying the process of crafting this music source as much as I am listening to it.
I have a programming question from this morning's show. I have a daughter in graduate school who would really enjoy the song "Their Way" that you played this morning. I have tried to find a place to purchase this (artist is listed as Bright Morning Star), but have had no success. A rare case of Google failing to yield results.
If you could provide any information that I could use to obtain a copy, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks for adding the 3rd hour! Cheers, Jon
Hey Dale,
I am also very happy to hear that you are adding a third hour! I am also hoping you might consider adding back some of the news and sports updates.
I have really enjoyed your show this past week (and of course the Morning Show many years before).
Good work and happy holiday wishes!
What are you people outside of the Twin Cities doing to listen to Radio Heartland if your computer is far away from your kitchen/living room/bedroom? I am not savvy in the ways of wires and routers. Do I need some kind of wireless thing and some type of receiver thing to get quality music back into my life. I have a radio in every room of the house and a new imac upstairs in a cold bedroom/office. It's been pretty dark here without music this past week. I even caught myself listening to a local AM station the other morning. I need help. Please share your infinite knowledge.
A sad former Morning Show listener.
Jon, the song "Their Way" is a bit obscure, to say the least. I know it is included on our "Best of Keepers" collection, which has been sold over the counter at the Lake Wobegon Store at the Mall of America. You can call (952) 854-3795 to ask if they still have the disc in stock. The manager, Dave Edin, is a good guy and a long-time friend of the Morning Show.
Tim2020, I asked Brian Smestad of our staff about upgrading your MPR application to accept the new link to Radio Heartland. Here's what he said:
To upgrade the version on the iPhone, a user needs to go into the app store, and then in the lower right hand corner, there is an update button. If you click on this, the MPR app is there. Simply click on it, and then click on free which then turns into install. This will upgrade the old version of the app. No need to uninstall the old one.
I hope this helps you stay connected to us!
Thanks, one and all.
Mary, some listeners outside the Twin Cities (and inside, as well) have used a thigamajig called "Airport Express" to connect their Apple computers to the stereo system. A "wireless thing" and a "receiver thing" are exactly the components that could do the job, and it would make use of that cold imac in your upstairs bedroom.
Walking the dog this morning I was wondering what the HAL initials stand for and my guess was going to be Heartland Announcer Liaison.
Our HAL does not seem to have the deep personality disorders of the movie HAL. A new name to make the difference clear would be good. I like Jeepers, and it made me think of some variants. How about
JEEVES - Jim Ed Electronic Virtual Entertainment System
Merry Christmas, Dale and RH Family,
I've been loving RH. The first tune I heard that hooked me on the path of the Morning Show was eons ago with Garrison playing "Icarus" by Paul Winter, probably 1978 (way before email and audio streaming). There's an old album by him called Wintersong that would have some nice holiday selections. Anything by him or Paul McCandless or Oregon would be welcome anytime! (Can you tell I play oboe?)
Keep up the great work. I hope you'll make some time to relax. We can be patient for all the wonderful things I know you'll be coming up with!
One more thing. Would there be an easy way to compile all those technical advice postings about using iPhones, Airport Express, car radio HD, etc. in one place so we can refer friends to them?
Finally, I'm still awaiting word about whether contributions can truly be routed only to RH before I make an additional contribution. Any word?
Regards.
Many excellent suggestions for the upcoming HAL name change! I am liking Jeeves as it is one syllable. Also, Jeeves of 'Bertie and Jeeves' books by P. G. Wodehouse, was a valet, and handled many tasks in an unobtrusvie, although astonishingly adept way, behind the scenes. (See book "Jeeves Takes Charge", et al)
If Jeeves were the new HAL, I hope this would not cause listeners to cast either Mike or Dale in the role of Bertie - perish the thought!
BTW - thanks for the Fred Astaire song "Dancing Cheek to Cheek" - just had to sing and dance along : )
Patrice, thanks for your excellent suggestion of a central location for all the technical information that is surfacing as part of this conversation. That would be a very smart thing to set up. I'll look into it.
Regarding the hope some have expressed that they can make a contribution that will go directly to and only to Radio Heartland - it is as I expected. MPR can't (and shouldn't) make that promise.
Here's the explanation from Membership Director Valerie Arganbright:
How We Track Member Preferences
When you contribute to MPR, every dollar is considered "unrestricted", but we want to know what you prefer to listen to so we ask you. The results are interesting. Most members listen to more than one service and many listen to everything. When you tell us your preferences, like Radio Heartland or any other service, we take this information seriously and use it as a guide when we set the budget, but it is considered as part of a larger effort to identify the most pressing needs we face. The goal is to have a family of healthy, growing radio services that continue to be worthy of your support.
How Radio Heartland is Funded
Operating Radio Heartland is expensive. Like the other services, to provide it, we draw on resources of the entire organization. This means that when a listener contributes to Radio Heartland, that revenue becomes part of the operating resources for all of MPR. This support is not restricted to just Radio Heartland.
We share the space and staff of all other services including The Current, Classical MPR and MPR News. We also share existing MPR support staff including engineering, marketing, operations, membership, finance and human resources.
Sharing resources and realizing great efficiencies by doing this is the only way we have been able to operate all of these services for you. The financial support members provide is combined and leveraged across the entire organization.
My four year old is, I think, finally figuring out why Mama wanders around the house in the morning with her laptop in tow - though it still perplexes her that I can hear "radio" on my computer...still, it is grand to have the RH music lilting through the house as I get ready in the morning (boy I love wireless networking). But I do miss it on my morning drive to work.
Any chance - what with all the fabulous technology at your fingertips (or those of the intrepid Michael Wells) - that you could produce a podcast version? It would mean a one (or two or three)-day delay, but it would also mean I could still listen in my car (since I don't have HD radio, but I do have a widget that allows me to tune my radio to listen to what's on my iPod).
Keep the fabulous going - the tweaking, the music, the blog, the all of it. (And I'm kind of liking JEEPERS or JEEVES instead of HAL - but I'm not especially picky.) Thanks!
Thanks for the 3rd hour Dale! We are thrilled!
I just called and renewed our membership and I must say the person taking the info seemed a little confused by my Radio Heartland preference. Is everyone in MPR staff land aware of its existence?
Dale,
Thanks so much for the lead on finding the "Their Way" song. I'll look for the Best of Keepers. For what it is worth, the original release "Sweet and Sour" by Bright Morning Star on Flying Fish Records/Rounder 1988 is available on iTunes, but I won't buy DRM restricted music, but others may like that resource.
Happy holidays to all Radio Heartland lovers!
Jon
A third hour of morning show programming is great news. Hopefully I'll be able to actually listen to a broadcast when I get my HD Radio sometime next week. Judging by the posts so far everything seems to be going very well indeed. Good Luck to you Dale and my very best wishes to you and Radio Heartland.
By the way. I understand there is a serious, ongoing lawsuit in progress by the folks who had WCAL classical ripped away from them by MPR after they had paid for the programing through the usual pledge drives. The CAL frequency of course is now occupied by the current. Perhaps if MPR loses that lawsuit as it rightly should there will be some changes and Radio Heartland can come out of the desert and back to ful fledged broadcasting.
Great news on the third live hour, thanks Dale! Losing the Morning Show has upset our morning apple cart and even though Radio Heartland is fantastic, not appearing on the radio alarm clock remains a big hole in the daily waking process. Perhaps the iPhone app could be enhanced to include an alarm function that would turn on the station of choice at a pre-selected time.
All in all, great work!
Good Morning Dale,
I've missed a few days so I was behind in reading the blog. I have a few comments in reference to the "NYC" blog. As far as programing goes, I would like to reinforce what Hannah Trumm said about keeping a little of the Current style music in the mix. I was not happy originally with the changes to the LGMS when you moved over to the Current but the new mix turned out to be great. As a mom of college-aged kids, I appreciated the chance to keep up in a small way with new artists and was proud to be the only mom I know with The Mountain Goats, StoryHill and Rodrigo y Gabriela in my CD pile.
I would also, like Amy and DanT, enjoy more world music. Brazilian and African are my favorites (I loved Rosa Passo and African Guitar Summit II) but Dream of the Salmon Maiden is great too.
Like many others, I would love your show to be on regular radio in the mornings. With Christmas, I can't spring for the HD car radio yet and my morning commute is dismal.
One last thought - Are there Radio Heartland bumper stickers in the works?
So, now that I can get Radio Heartland on my iPod Touch, I'm in heaven. I can connect to the small speaker system in the kitchen while making breakfast, then move to the larger system near the woodstove. It's a happy marriage of technologies. With your outstanding musical selection, it brightens my day immeasurably.
Thank you for the heartwarming years of The Morning Show, and the fabulous last show on the 11th. It was worth getting up at 3:30am to get to the Fitz, where I was surrounded by friends I hadn't met before. I'm looking forward to many more years of Radio Heartland.
Could you maybe play "Merry Christmas from the family" by Robert Earl Keen? It's a little rowdy, but fun. Another great holiday piece for our family is Prokofiev's "Love for Three Oranges".
Thanks again for making Radio Heartland such an organic extension of The Morning Show.
Hi Dale and everyone at MPR making RH happen,
This is the first time I've ventured into blogs and figured out how to listen to something streaming online - a testament to the strength of my connection to (and appreciation for) The Morning Show and now, RH!
Thank you so much for continuing this great music and warm and funny repartee with your listeners. Thanks too for your risk-taking, creativity, and spirit of adventure as you create this new media experience for all of us.
A happy holiday to all of you!
Another possible name for HAL
JASPER - Jim-Ed Announcer Substitute Programable Entertainment Robot.
Okay back to work.
We were in a similar situation as Mary, with regards to how to get the music from our computer to other parts of our house. The "receiver thing" part of our solution is a Roku Soundbridge, which connects to our stereo system and picks up Radio Heartland (plus hundreds of other internet radio stations) from our wireless modem. It's extremely compact, compatible with either Mac or PC, and the computer does not need to be on for it to work (as long as the modem is transmitting). Thus far we have been very pleased, as indeed we are with Radio Heartland. Our sadness on having to say goodbye to the Morning Show has been compensated by the opportunity to hear its music 24 hours a day. We have already made an extra (and specific) donation, and urge all our fellow listeners to do the same.
So glad to hear Old Crow Medicine Show playing on RH! The evening "continuation" of The Morning Show is quite grand. In addition to OCMS, other great additions to the playlist would be groups like Great Big Sea, Pert 'Near Sandstone and Trampled By Turtles (who I did hear on RH in its long one-week existence, but it doesn't hurt to express support for Dave Simonett & Co.)
Continued success Dale, Mike & Co!
For years I have wished my brother in Connecticut could tap into the riches I have enjoyed on The Morning Show (of course he could have listened online but I didn't think of it then).
I hooked him up with RH and this was his response:
"I have to say I'm staggered by the selection on that station. I find myself reluctant to leave my chair for fear of missing something. The other thing that blows me away is how many of the artists that are new to me are Twin Cities locals. The local club scene must be hoppin'!
Just today, I've added twelve CDs to my Amazon wish list, and bookmarked seven others on CD Baby. Not that I'll buy them all, just so I won't forget them. Yesterday I sent a long email to Billy [our musical cousin] telling him to tune in. It's amazing."
[Lisa again] Thank you for all of it. I'd request a bit more Broadway and I still pine for the days when a bit of classical was in the mix.
Three ideas:
1. Play some complete CDs (e.g. Peter Ostroushko's Heart of the Heartland, Jayhawks, even 'Mats or Soul Asylum. Do it at random, not at some scheduled hour of the week.
2. Consider some classical (accessible).
3. Have some process that allows a listener selected at random, or even by a skill-based contest, to program an hour. Have one winner per day.
Dale, thanks for a great first week
Dale,
How about naming the computer POOLE? Program Of On-Line Effluvia (or eccentricity, elegance, ecclecticism).
I am sure that Pa Poole would be pleased to have an electronic grandchild.
Thanks for a wonderful first week!!!!
Good Morning, All,
Within one glorious week full of appealing music, I’ve gotten in the habit of turning on my computer so as to activate RH & then to check this blog, although I know Dale is having much-deserved days off today & tomorrow.
I’ve really enjoyed Dale’s correspondence, and the comments, suggestions, and camaraderie of fellow listeners. And I appreciate MPR more than ever. We’ll renew our membership this week.
Be well in this season of snow and celebration.
I have to agree wholeheartedly with most of the commenters I read here: this is like the Morning Show, 24 hours a day. Well almost - I miss Jim Ed's acts - the pirate, the bear, the perennial sophomore, the frankenfood scientist, the sherpa salesman, the 9th district congressman (what did I forget?); but as far as the music is concerned, 'WOW"! I'm happy.
I can't bring myself to tune in to the SW MN Classical station which used to broadcast The Morning Show. Two reasons: 1) it makes me sad. 2) they are plugging what they refer to as "The New Morning Show" with ALL classical music. (as if that is a good thing!) They actually use the names of Ann Reed, Sons of The Pioneers, and Jenway...replaced with classical musicians. I think it is distasteful and disrespectful, and I did not expect that from MPR.
Maybe I am being over-sensitive, but I think classical music is much better when it starts at 9:00 AM...AFTER Jenway, Ann Reed, and Sons of The Pioneers.
Thankfully we now have Dale and Mike and...well I vote for JASPER, 24/7.
So glad to hear you are already expanding the show to an additional hour. We were able to hold out exactly one day listening online then went out and bought our HD radio last weekend. An early Christmas present. Plus we discovered that the reception problems that plagued us after the move to 89.3 were gone!
Continue to recruit guests because the human interplay is so important to help us get our own interaction services properly restarted in the morning. Especially these extra cold morning we've had in St. Paul lately. Perhaps Mike Pengra could be nudged gently into saying a few words. Or some yet unknown engineer could ape Jim Ed's meteoric rise and become a new star of the airwaves. Anything can happen.
So a big tip of the hat to Radio Heartland and keep up the good work. Have a happy holiday season, give generously to the charities of your choice and whatever else makes it feel festive.
I'm finally tuned in. Car radio is in, and 2 tuners on order. One to plug into my existitng clock radio, and the other for work. One benny that I wasn't prepared for is that non-morning show show is a lot more music and a lot less talk (no disrespect to morning show portion!)
Glad to hear that you are extending the live morning show! The original hours was way too short.
Suggestion for your interspersed christmas music. Butch Thomson has at least one christmas CD with his special rag time slant on old time favorites. Made to order off-beat music for your show! :-)
A special plea to listeners, but non-members. Please consider supporting this show! We don't want to loose it ... for a third time!
My spirits lifted immediately after hearing that RH would be taking over for The Morning Show. My daughter grew up with Dale and Jim Ed and would spend her mornings before going to school with The Sons of the Pioneers and the vibrating dog bed; which she insisted was real.
I will definitely be contributing to RH and listening on my new (christmas present) HD radio!
MPR, Dale, RH crew: This is no longer the bleak mid-winter because you are bringing the warmth and the sunshine in the music you select and play. I thank you for the joy you give, that fills my day no matter what the rest of the world is dishing out. I'm listening guilt-free because I am a sustaining member who came back after learning that RH was producing Dale's music selections in the moring, that I can listen to anytime, day or night. I can't say "Thank You!" enough.....
My husband and I are very happy with Radio Heartland. Thank you so much.
I loved the music this morning-hearing the Decemberists, Johnny Cash, Christmas music etc.
We will continue to contribute to MPR, especially with the continuation of Dale and addition of Radio Heartland!
Thank you Lynne, Sue too and Pam for the recent posts.
Your support will make it possible for us to develop Radio Heartland into something we will all be proud of.
And Pam, I noticed the Decemberists to Johnny Cash segue that HAL put into the playlist this morning, and I wished I'd been awake to hear it! I'm glad you were tuned into experience that one-of-a-kind moment.
HAL? 'Tisn't a better name out there. Stands for Heartland Audio Library, doncha know.
Hi Dale,
I just had a thought (which someone else might have suggested buried in these posts and I missed): for evening programming, could Radio Heartland be a venue for broadcasts of concerts at the Fitz by such folks as Peter Ostroushko, Peter Mayer, The Steeles .... ?
Happy Trails to You sung by Roy Rogers & Dale Evans played recently, so it’s time to say “Thanks” for another day—and night—of great listening. The music was so companionable as I worked on a project. One never knows if we’ll hear a fond favorite musician or be introduced to an unknown artist. I guess we’ll have to keep listening!
