Next week, primary elections will decide the major party candidates for governor and other offices this November. Today's Question: Do you feel prepared to vote in next week's primary?
Yes, I now feel I am sufficiently well-informed to cast an intelligent vote in last Tuesday's primary.
Checking the sample ballot I forgot about:
US Representatives,
Secretary of State,
Attorney General,
and
School board directors...
sigh, more homework...maybe if I call the Campaign HQs of Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Chris Wright they can give me some hints :)
Yes, although I have to say I'm appalled and discouraged by the careful purveying of old tired platitudes by the candidates for governor. I'm also irked by the lack of concrete proposals and specific remedies from the candidates. The only candidate who comes close to making clear proposals is Mark Dayton.
Note to Entenza campaign: trumpeting that you are against No Child Left Behind is not a positive solution-based proposal.
Nope: I'm still not sure where they all stand on Medical Marijuana, Industrial Hemp, Legalizing Cannabis...and addressing the whole issue of the unconstitutional criminalization of Hemp and relabeling it "marihuana/marijuana", one of the greatest elephants in the room.
I'm ready. I have not made up my mind on all races, but I'm ready.
A very good question. I feel the August date is to early and many people will be unprepared. I also understand in our county we will have one ballot with both parties listed, but we will be required to vote for only one party. Since the Republican party has already had their Republican endorsement convention they already have their slate of candidates. I look for many votes to be invalidated due to crossover voting by both parties.
I voted!
And have a tip sheet available for anyone who would like to take my suggestions with them to the polls next week :)
Having just returned to MN after working in FL and WA for nearly 3 years, and now working in SD... no.
Absolutely, and it's a pretty easy decision for me... especially because I really don't want Tom Emmer to be our governor. I have my favorite of the DFL'ers, but I could settle with either of the other two, if my candidate doesn't win.
Yes. I do my own research into candidates positions, and MPR certainly helps in that aspect by having them on the air. I either turn off or mute political ads. They really don't contain any real information. @ Clark, you sound like you're talking about G.W. Bush.
Mr. Dayton, voted the most ineffective in the U.S. Senate. Ms. Anderson Kelliher, consistently out maneuvered by Governor Pawlenty during her tenure. Mr. Entenza, goes for the pop-culture road with Ms. Robinson as his running mate (e.g., Sarah Palin). With all due respect, not exactly a stellar list of candidates. Mr. Cerisi, where are you?
Yes, I feel prepared. I pretty much have decided who I will vote for but I will continue to listen to the candidates right up to the primary election next week.
No - all the media has been surrounding Emmer, Anderson-Kelliher, and Dayton. I want to see more on Tom Horner, the IP candidate the Strib endorsed.
Emmer seems to have similar alignment with the issues that affect me.
The main thing is to get out and vote.... That is as long as you are not a Socialist:-)

So, Clark, are you saying your ambition is to amass a pile of wealth? I heard an interesting story about that yesterday from one of my greatest cynic heroes, Jesus of Nazareth-- Luke 12:13-21.
I see the need for voting for the political party, regardless of the specific people running.
Sadly, since Buhr and Hamilton, the voters are left with little more that party-line choices.
I dont feel prepared enough to make a decision yet. The issues arent flushed out enought and the visibility of the candidates is not there yet. Summer is a time to recreate and spend time for family and political issues are not of paramount for myself. The candidates should be more hard-hitting and visible which should be in the offing come this fall!
In this case, I agree with the Strib's endorsement of Kelliher (editorial 7/31), for all the reasons they give.
Dayton is a mental case given his stand on raising taxes and chasing business out of the state. Anyone know if he is still drinking, snorting cocaine? Nice when you are born with $100 million and your primary goal as a politician is I got my wealth now I want to insure you never accumulate wealth of your own.
For state senator - Yes. I would like to see a change after some questionable behavior of incumbent Senator Chaudhary while in office. Her challenger, former house member Goodwin impresses me.
For governor - Not really. I was leaning toward Anderson-Keliher early on, but then we didn't hear from her. And during the debates I was more impressed with Dayton. But I was disappointed with Dayton during his term as Senator. I haven't heard him tell why this would be different other than it is an executive branch position, and I'm not buying that argument. As un-PC as it is to admit it, Dayton's future mental health is also a concern for me. Entenza just seems to much like the slimey politician type. But based on recent history, you can bet that the MN DFL will choose the candidate least likely to beat Emmer.
The rest of the races - I have no idea who these people are. I guess I have some research to do.
No.
Not sure if I should vote for Hahn, to get rid of Horner. Or vote for which DFL'er is the easiest to beat.
Decisions, decisions.
