Face it, Brad and Angelina are hot.

Warning: "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" is a terrible date movie. You'll be looking over at the boy/girl thinking, "How come you don't look like Angelina/Brad?" The whole point of the movie is that these people are movie stars and they are hot! Hotter than you and me!

My guess at the possible thinking that went into this movie: Plot? "Not necessary." Any other characters? "Well, maybe we can slip Vince Vaughn in." Coherent script? "Let's rewrite it over a hundred times! It'll all be okay because all we need is for these two beauties battle it out."

Sounds terrible, eh? Well, surprise, surprise! It's not so bad.

If you let the whole plot thing go and just enjoy watching the movie, it's a fun little action-comedy. It's refreshing especially to have a fight scene where the two pugilists seem to enjoy taking each other apart and do it without wires attached to their bodies. (And Angelina does seem quite comfortable with a knife in her hand.) It reminds me of how much pleasure I took out of "The Fast and the Furious" when the car stunts were actually done on a road at high speeds instead of in a computer after the fact.

So, revel in the charisma of Angelina and Brad, be grateful that Doug Liman knows how to direct action sequences and hope that they all try again sometime with a really good script. Like one with an ending that makes sense.

How come the Oak Street series on Hitchcock, the prize-winning Korean film and the equally prize doc at the Bell Aud. are not listed? The Lagoon's "Best of Youth," a once-in-a-decade film at the Lagoon deserves a mention and a review, unless we missed something on your website. I would think MPR would cater to audiences a bit beyond mainstream tastes. O.W.

This movie was far more entertaining than I had hoped. It was a whole lot of fun, funny, and only felt long near the end when we wondered if it wasn't about time Liman wrapped this thing up.

The focus is on recent releases, but please feel free to suggest other movies for review using the request form.

Head to http://www.mpr.org/moviereviews and use "send us a request" to add it.

Thanks!
