Tuesday news and reviews

In response to a conversation about criticism and arts reporting, I'm paring down what I choose to post in the daily news and reviews column. Anything that looks like a slightly padded press release is passed over; so are pieces that do no more than regurgitate calendar listings. Also, if an article consists of one or two paragraphs followed by five or six photographs, it will not make this round-up. That being said, enjoy the many reviews and news stories that do make the list!

Daryl Hall and John Oates make dreams come true at the State Theatre
Anyone who wonders whether Hall & Oates can still cut it had the question answered. These living legends, after decades and decades of going at it, continue to deliver pop R&B with a world of authority, finesse, and passion--even if they've always been pretty slick about it.

With Anthony Fedorov, the Ordway brings "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" back to its roots

Technicolor Dreamcoat custom tailored for a family friendly fit
The latest production of Dreamcoat, now running at the Ordway Center, exemplifies family friendly entertainment with a dazzling array of set pieces, each vividly hued and impressively choreographed, that hold attention despite a meandering storyline in the conspicuously padded second act.
