A friend of mine clued me in to "waymarking." It's a method of marking interesting places for others to find, using latitude and longitude coordinates.

Individuals can set up their own waymark categories, based on certain criteria. For instance, here's a category for art in the Twin Cities.

This is pretty similar to a local project I'm working on, Start Seeing Art, that maps and identifies public art in the Twin Cities.
